Guwahati: Notorious drugs peddler Ramijul Haque was shot by Assam police while trying to escape from custody, attacking police personnel in the Nagaon district of the State.

As per reliable source information, on May 1 night, Inspector Sanjit Kumar Ray and staff of Nagaon police carried out a search operation in the house and premises of veteran drugs peddler Ramijul Hoque, 28 years in Nangal Dhuwa village of the district.

During the search, 72 plastic vials of heroin and one mobile handset were recovered and seized from his possession.

While the police team, along with the apprehended drug peddler, were proceeding back to the police station, the accused person attacked the police personnel and escaped into the darkness. During his re-apprehension by the police team, the accused person was hit by a bullet and sustained injuries on his left knee. The accused person is currently under medical care.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Nagaon police conducted a raid at Lal Pathar and apprehended Majida Khatun (26 years) wife of Shahidul Islam, while she was selling drugs in a market area.

During the search, three soap cases containing heroin, Rs 23,490 and a mobile handset were recovered and seized from her possession. Her husband Shahidul, who is also a veteran drug peddler, is absconding. On police interrogation, arrested drug peddler Majida Khatun revealed that her husband brings the drugs consignment, and she sells it in the open market, taking her child as a shield to confuse the police.

Meanwhile, a police team in the Dhing area of Nagaon district on May 1 conducted a raid at Niz Dhing and recovered 14 plastic vials filled with heroin from possessing the following drug peddlers – Guljar Hussain, Sabir Ahmed and Asmina Begum, wife of Sabir Ahmed. Drugs peddler Sabir is still absconding. On April 30, based on source information, Nagaon police apprehended drug peddlers Rahul Islam and Hasina Khatun.
