The business tycoon Ratan Tata, known for philanthropy and humanity, was conferred Australia’s highest civilian honour. On April 22, Barry O’Farrell, Australia’s High Commissioner to India, went on his official Twitter account to announce the news of conferring the Tata Sons’ Chairman, Rata Tata, with the honour.

The Order of Australia (AO) was presented for the industrialists’ efforts in strengthening India-Australia bilateral relations. In the tweet, the diplomat said, “Ratan Tata is a titan of biz, industry and philanthropy not just in India, but his contributions have also made a significant impact in Australia. Delighted to confer Order of Australia (AO) honour to Ratan Tata in recognition of his longstanding commitment to the India-Australia relationship”.

The Order of Australia honour comes just a month after the industrialist was named an Honorary Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AO) for his contributions to developing Indo-Australia ties, particularly in commerce, investment, and philanthropy.

Tata played a vital role in India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement 2022. As per the reports, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has the most significant Australian workforce in any Indian corporation, with over 17,000 employees.
Tata was also awarded “Sewa Ratna” in October 2022 for his philanthropic efforts. “Sewa Ratna” is given by the RSS affiliate Sewa Bharti. This organisation works in the remotest villages and slum areas by introducing welfare and social service programs, such as free medical assistance, education, and vocational training. He also received India’s second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, in 2008.

Tata Group is India’s multinational conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai and is known for providing impeccable service to India and the world. The group was founded by Jamsetji Tata in 1868, often called the ‘father of Indian industry’. This company is also known and recognised worldwide. Tata Group is India’s third largest employer after the Indian Railways and Indian Defence Forces. Under this conglomerate are various companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals, Tata Consumer Products, Titan, Tata Capital, Tata Power, Indian Hotels, Tata Communications, Tata Digital, and Tata Electronics.

Ratan Tata became chairman of the group in March 1991 and stepped down in 2012. He is known for his humility and philanthropy. On March 1, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates met Ratan Tata and Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairperson of the Tata Group in India. Together they discussed their charitable initiatives and talked about improving their collaborative effort by teaming together for nutrition, diagnostics, and health.
