Tension prevails in the Kalyani Chowk area of Muzaffarpur after a youth from the Muslim community barged into a local Hanuman Temple near Badi Kalyani under town thana limits in Bihar and showed disrespect to the idols instilled there on April 22.
The shocking incident occurred when a youth identified as Mohammad Moinuddin, a resident of Bada Diwan road, barged into a local Hanuman temple in sleepers near 5.30 pm and urinated there; it’s been learnt that the youth also raised religious slogans and urinated near another idol in the temple premise as well, following which he was chased by the priest of the temple along with a few locals and beaten up. However, he somehow managed to flee from the spot.
The incident sparked a huge outrage among the locals, who soon gathered near the temple premises and demanded to arrest of the accused; a First Information Report (FIR) was also filed in the town thana station in this regard, following which a police team nabbed the accused from his home.
In the FIR filed by the priest, he also alleged that the accused, Moinuddin, tried to snatch away some jewellery from the nearby Durga Mata idol.
While the police, after the arrest, is still unsure and probing the mental state of the accused, different versions of the incidents are also floating among the locals. A few people allege that the accused and his brother are habitual offenders and have shown disrespect to the other temple walls in the past.
Speaking with the Organiser, Amresh Kumar, a resident of Kalyani, said that “This is a vicious attempt to disturb the peace and communal harmony in the area; now it’s being floated around that the accused is mentally unstable, but similar stories have been heard about his brother as well.”
“Even if he is unstable, why did he disrespect the temples only? There are other religious shrines in the city as well. One is just a few meters away from his house, but he didn’t choose to pee there, added Amresh.
The city police, on the other hand, camping near the area where tension is still simmering among the residents; the police also took out a flag march in the nearby colonies on April 22 night; earlier in a tweet, the city police said that “an FIR has been filled in this regard and the accused has been arrested, documents about the treatment of the accused have also been submitted to the town thana, further probe in the matter is still going on.
In the tweet, the police also warned that the police are also monitoring social media sites, and anyone who shares wrong information/media will be booked under relevant sections for disrupting peace and communal harmony. Meanwhile, it’s been reported that a cleansing exercise, ‘Shuddhikaran’ of the temple premise, is also being conducted, after which a Yagya and Puja will be held there.
