The National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) has revised the syllabus for class 12, History. From the academic year 2023-24 students will not have chapters pertaining to the ‘Mughal Empire’ in India.

The book studied by students of class 12 ‘Themes in Indian History-Part II’ no longer includes chapters on ‘Kings and Chronicles; the Mughal Courts (C. 16th and 17th centuries)’.

NCERT will also remove some of the poems and paragraphs from the Hindi textbooks too.

The Class 12 civics book has been updated, with two chapters (‘American Hegemony in World Politics’ and ‘The Cold War Era’) removed, along with revisions in the Hindi textbooks.

Furthermore, the ‘Rise of popular movements’ and ‘Era of one-party dominance’ chapters are removed from the Class 12th ‘Politics in India since Independence’ textbook.

Some changes have been made with the syllabus updation of the class 10 students as well. This includes changes in the ‘Democratic Politics-II’ textbook for Class 10. With the removal of chapters on ‘Democracy and Diversity’, ‘Popular Struggles and Movements’, and ‘Challenges of Democracy’, some revisions have also been made to Class 11 books.

Class 11 textbook ‘Themes in World History’ will not have chapters like ‘Central Islamic Lands’, ‘Clash of Cultures’, and ‘Industrial Revolution’.

All boards following the NCERT curriculum would revise the syllabus as per the new changes.

UP Board implements the updated syllabus

As soon as the decision was issued by the board, the Uttar Pradesh government implemented the changes.

The UP Board of Secondary Education (UP Board) has stated that the syllabus for classes 10th, 11th, and 12th, which follow the NCERT curriculum, will be updated to reflect the recent changes.

Uttar Pradesh board secretary Divyakant Shukla has confirmed the new rationalised syllabus of Classes 10th, 11th and 12th and said the updated UP Board Syllabus 2023-24 will be issued on the official website.

The books with the rationalized syllabus will be available in the market soon.
