The dead body of a woman identified as Sonam was recovered from the sewage line after she was murdered by co-worker Mohammad Rizwan. The case was reported from Gopalbagh colony which falls under the Jaitpura police station in the Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh.

Notably, Sonam and Rizwan worked at a power loom workshop and on April 1, they had a dispute over something after which the accused strangulated her to death. The workshop belongs to Ram Kamal Sonkar where the deceased worked.

After murdering Sonam, Rizwan dumped her body in the sewage line and covered it. Later he reached the police station and confessed his crime.

The police had to break the cement coating before they could take out Sonam’s dead body from the sewage line.
A case was registered at the Jaipura police station under section 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC and SC/ST Act.

Sonam’s father Dharmendra, a resident of Mirzapur told the police that he is a vegetable vendor and like every day his daughter Sonam went for work but did not return home.

He added Rizwan used to follow Sonam to her workplace, he wanted to have a relationship with her but she never accepted his proposal.

Rizwan allegedly used the ‘dupatta’ for strangulating Sonam. He tied her hands and then buried her dead body at the power-loom station where he worked as a labourer.

Sonam and her mother washed dishes at Sonkar’s home. Sonam’s mother said that on April 1, her daughter reached Sonkar’s home before her.

While speaking with the media, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) RS Gautam said, “As soon as the accused confessed his crime they marked the spot where he buried the dead body of the victim. The body on recovery was sent for the post-mortem and later the accused was arrested”.

The officer did not comment about past relationship of the duo.
