Jharkhand: 5 Maoists killed in encounter in Chatra, two of them carried a bounty of 25 lakhs each

As many as five armed cadres of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), an armed wing of the Communist Party of India (CPI-M), were killed in an encounter with the security forces near Palamu-Chatra border of Jharkhand on April 3.

As per the reports, a joint team of CoBRA, an elite anti-naxal unit of the CRPF, along with district police of Chatra and Palamu were out on a combing operation in the bordering area where an encounter broke with the Maoist, in which at least five members of the banned outfit have been killed.

It’s been learnt that one of the members Gautam Paswan who carried a reward of Rs 25 lakhs, was also among the cadres killed in the encounter; Paswan was a member of the Special Area Committee of the proscribed Maoist outfit.

It’s been reported that at least two members who got killed in action were carrying a reward of 25 lakhs each, while a reward of 5 lakhs each was already announced for the other two.

Speaking on the development superintendent of police Chatra, Rakesh Ranjan, quoted that a huge amount of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the site, and a search operation is still being conducted; it’s been learnt that the security forces have already recovered at least two AK-47s.

Maoist neutralised Gadchiroli

In a separate incident, a team of the C-60 (anti-naxal unit of the Maharashtra police) Commandos in operation neutralised a Maoist near the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border on April 1.

It’s been learnt that the district police had some secret intel about the presence of a Maoist party, following which a team of C-60 Commandos were dispatched to the location.

It’s been learnt that when the commandos reached the Hikker forest area, the Maoist party opened indiscriminate fire on them, to which the security forces retaliated briefly, it’s been reported that after a brief gunfight that lasted for an hour, the Maoist party retreated from the spot.

After the encounter, the body of a Maoist killed in action along with a 303 bore rifle, the country-made pistol, cartridges, medicines, and Maoist literature have been recovered by the security forces; the deceased has been later identified as Sammer Mohando (31).
