Chhattisgarh: Female CPI-Maoist killed in an encounter in Bijapur

A female cadre of the People Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) armed wing of the proscribed CPI-Maoist was killed in an encounter between security forces and the Maoist in the Gangaloor area of Bijapur, Chhattisgarh on March 21.

As per the reports, Bijapur police had got some intel about the presence of Maoist commander Vella and Gangaloor area committee member Dinesh in the Karcholi-Todka forest area under Gangaloor police station limits of Bijapur in Chhattisgarh following which a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG), CRPF and Special Task Force (STF) was dispatched to the location in the wee hours of March 21.

It’s been learnt that when the team reached the forest of Karcholi-Todka at around 6.30 am, a gun fight broke out between the Maoist and the joint team in which a female cadre of the outlawed outfit was killed, the joint team after the encounter recovered the body of a female Maoist in uniform along with a 12 bore rifle from the spot, it’s been reported that the identity of the deceased Maoist is yet to be ascertained.

Regarding the media, Inspector-General of Police (IG) Bastar Range Sundarraj P confirmed the development and quoted “that the body of the Maoist killed in action will be brought to the headquarters.”

Sub Zonal commander surrenders in Jharkhand

In a separate development, a subzonal commander of the banned Maoist outfit Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the proscribed CPI-Maoist surrendered before the police in Latehar of Jharkhand on March 20.

The surrendered Maoist has been identified as Dasrath Oraon alias Raushan ji who has been active in different Maoist groups since 2004. Dasrath joined the TSPC in 2016 and was a CPI Maoist member before that. The surrender occurred in the presence of IG Palamu, Rajkumar Lakra, SP Latehar Anjani Anjan, and CRPF commandant KD Joshi.

It’s been reported that as many as 60 cases, including murder, attack on a police van, and improvised explosive device (IED) explosions, are pending against Oraon in different police stations of Latehar and adjoining regions for which a reward of Rs five lakh has already been announced on him.

After the surrender, Oraon also appealed to his other cadres of the Maoist outfit to shun the path of violence and surrender before the police.
