Khalistani extremist Amritpal Singh’s uncle Harjit Singh was also brought to Dibrugarh jail in Assam by the Punjab Police on March 21 morning, a senior Assam police official said.

Harjit Singh, arrested by the Punjab police on March 20, was flown to Guwahati by a particular flight by a Punjab police team. Later he was moved to the Dibrugarh jail by road from Guwahati. He is the fifth Khalistani extremist linked to Amritpal’s ‘Waris Punjab De’ (WPD), who were brought to the Dibrugarh jail in Assam. On March 19, 4 arrested Khalistani extremists, Daljit Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Pradhanmantri Bajeka, were brought to Dibrugarh jail by a special team of Punjab police.

A convoy of seven heavily armed Assam police special security vehicles took Harjit Singh from the Guwahati airport to the Dibrugarh central jail. Khalistani extremist Harjit Singh was brought to Guwahati airport around 11 pm on March 20. The Assam police special security team took charge of the security from the airport and moved him to Dibrugarh jail in a seven-vehicle convoy by road. A team of Punjab police also accompanied the convoy. The team reached Dibrugarh jail at 7.10 am on March 21, morning. After the formalities, the Punjab police team handed Harjit Singh to the Dibrugarh jail authority.

Harjit Singh is believed to be the mentor behind his nephew gaining control over the WPD and starting the Khalistani movement and anti-national activities in Punjab. He is among the five people slapped with the National Security Act (NSA), which allows the preventive detention of anyone who could threaten national security or public order.

It should be mentioned that on Sunday, four WPD members were brought to the Dibrugarh central jail after the Punjab Government, on March 18, began a major crackdown on the outfit, headed by Khalistan extremist Amritpal Singh.

Punjab police informed that over 100 people had been arrested in the crackdown starting from March 18.

Interestingly, heavy security has been deployed at the Mohanbari airport in Dibrugarh since March 21 morning. Speculations are fueling that more arrested Khalistani extremist members could be brought to Dibrugarh jail from Punjab, around 2,500 km away from the centre of the newly grown foreign-sponsored Khalistani terrorism.
