On March 10, Srinagar Police arrested a tuition teacher Abdul Wahid Bhat S/o Abdul Rehman Bhat, for alleged sexual harassment and inappropriately touching a 9-year-old girl in Srinagar. He is a resident of Khan Colony, Chanapora, Srinagar.

On March 14, Srinagar Police revealed that Abdul Wahid Bhat confessed to sexually harassing and inappropriately touching a 9-year-old girl. The Srinagar Police has registered a case against him under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

The Srinagar Police (@SrinagarPolice) tweeted, “One 9-year-old girl was sexually harassed & inappropriately touched by his tuition teacher, namely Abdul Wahid Bhat S/o Abdul Rehman Bhat R/o Khan colony Chanapora. The accused confessed to his crime. FIR No 14 of 2023 u/s 354 IPC & 12 POCSO act registered in Chanpura PS.”

Last month, J&K Police arrested a teacher, Mohammad Taj Niyazi, working at Government Middle School Dhargaloon located in Mendhar sub division in J&K’s Poonch district for alleged sexual misconduct with two female students at the school. The Zonal Education Officer Balakote’s order said, “Observing the facts of the matter it was established that the teacher committed an offence which is punishable under rule.”

On February 26, J&K Police arrested Madrasa Maulvi Bilal and accomplice Riaz Ahmed for bluffing, kidnapping, and keeping a 16-year-old girl hostage for the last 5 months. The minor girl was pursuing Arabic studies in the Madrasa located in the Chak Dayala area, situated in J&K’s Samba district.

In September 2022, a private school principal was arrested for the alleged rape of two minor female students in J&K’s Pulwama district. The two female students were sisters and were from Pulwama’s Kakapora area.

In October 2022, a J&K Court sentenced Mohammad Maqbool Ganie, a teacher, to 20 years imprisonment and imposed an Rs. 10 lakh fine for sexually assaulting a minor girl seven years ago in south Kashmir.
