Oscar 2023: Rajamouli’s RRR which took inspiration from Ramayana and Mahabharata bags Oscar Award for Naatu Naatu

Rajamouli said, “My Filims will always have narratives that are inspired by Itihasas. I'm deeply influenced by Ramayana and Mahabharata. They somehow come out in various forms but it isn't deliberate I don't think there is any emotion that isn't written in the Mahabharata and Ramayana”.

India is having a big moment at the 95th Academy awards with Naatu Naatu winning the best original song award. The ‘RRR’ team creates history by being the first-ever team to bring the Oscars home. It has been a forerunner at international awards and created quite a buzz around the globe with Naatu Naatu’s hook step.

The film first made history as it earned nominations at some prestigious international awards, and now the film is again making history but as a big winner.

Apart from this the Elephant Whisperers have also brought the Academy Award for best documentary in the short category.

Visuals from the Oscars are filled with energy as the two leads NT Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan swirl on the hook step of Naatu Naatu on stage.

The performance was led by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava and was introduced on the stage by Deepika Padukone. The audience present at the ceremony gave them a standing ovation.

The RRR movie was released in March 2022 and was written by V Vijyendra Prasad and directed by in-famous SS Rajamouli. The plot of the movie is based on the struggle of two young boys during the British Raj. The Song Naatu Naatu is written by Chandrabose and composed by MM Keeravani.

RRR is a fictional story based on the lives of two Telugu freedom fighters, Alluri Seetharama Raju and Komaram Bheem. Ram Charan and Jr NTR played lead roles, respectively. The film collected over Rs Rs 1200 crore worldwide. Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran also starred in the movie

The film was originally created in Telegu and is celebrated all across the world. Before song Naatu Naatu there have six Indian nominations to the Oscars and it is the first to bring the award home.

The Naatu Naatu’s hook step became popular all across the globe after winning the Golden Globes this year. The crowd from all around the world whistled, danced and shouted on the song with lead actors recreating it on stage.

After the Golden Globe, won big at the Critics Choice Awards 2022. They bagged two awards at the prestigious function: the Best Foreign Film Award and the Best Song Award.

The winning spree continued even in the United States as Rajamouli won the ‘Best Director’ trophy at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards.

After winning the Best Original Song award at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, the song has fetched another big award for composer MM Keeravani. This time, it was at the 28th Critics Choice Awards held in Los Angeles.

Recently Rajamouli during an interview said, his film RRR draws inspiration from the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The Elephant Whisperers wins Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short)

Released in December 2022, The Elephant Whisperers is an Indian-American short documentary film, by filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves. This is her first directorial debut as well.

The documentary is about the bond that develops between a couple and an orphaned baby elephant, Raghu and his family at Tamil Nadu’s Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. The film had its world premiere at the DOC NYC Film Festival, a film festival in the United States on November 9, 2022.

In India, it is released on Netflix.

The director, Kartiki Gonsalves spent five years following a human-elephant blended family belonging to the Kattunayakan tribe to make this documentary. As she stated, “I met Raghu [the baby elephant] when he was exactly three months old,”

she added, “I spent about a year and a half with him when he was a tiny baby before this became a documentary.”
