Merrylands (Sydney): The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) NSW Vibhaag conducted the programme to celebrate the auspicious festival of Makar Sankranti. The event was organised at Holroyd Gardens in the suburb of Merrylands and was attended by hundreds of swayamsevaks across the Sydney Mahanagar.
The festival of Makar Sankranti marks the commencement of the Sun’s northern course in the Heavens, the Uttaraayana path, which applies to the northern hemisphere. This turn in the Sun’s course takes place at the point of time when it enters the sign of Makara or Capricorn.
The Swayamsevaks were addressed by Shri Pranavji Agarwal, Samparka-Pramukh NSW Vibhaag, delivering the bauddhik. He emphasised the importance of this festival in Vedic Hindu culture. Pranavji mentioned this festival is celebrated across Bharat with different names like Pongal in the South, Sankranti in the North, Uttarayan in the West and Bihu in the East.
But it was celebrated with the same objective of spreading brotherhood and harmony in the society, acknowledging the need to recalibrate our behaviour to changing times as seen in Prakriti. He mentioned that Hindus should constantly recalibrate their understanding of the commonness that unites them so that they can be susanghatit, a unified positive world-friendly force and be pivotal in influencing Vishwa-shanti, world peace.
New officer bearers of HSS, NSW, were announced at the event. Prof Nihalji Agar, Sanghchalak, told the new Sanghchalak of NSW, Dr Rajeevji Jairaam.
Shri Manjunathji Venkatesh continues as Kaaryavaaha of NSW Vibhaag, while Shri Sampatji Govindarajan and Shri Viirendraji Rawat continue to bear office as Saha Karyavaha, NSW Vibhaag.
As is the custom, any new shakhas that conducts itself and sustains for a year and grows chooses a name for itself. Hornsby shakha chose the name to be Shri Krishna Shakha and the bhagwa dhwaja was presented to Shri Krishna shakha.
Zonal samparka-pramukh Shri Ramyavaranji also attended the utsav alongwith many other HSS Australia karyakartas.
