The gruesome killing of an army man, misbehaviour with women police constables involving DMK men and abusive words and arrogant attitude towards police by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) cadres have all been the worst examples of how law and order have become bad to worse under the much-ballyhooed Dravidian Model Stock Government led by M K Stalin in Tamil Nadu.

The DMK Government and its ministers have been finding space in media, including social media, over the braved on poor cadres and the public who came to give petitions, misbehaving with woman cadres.

In the first instance (on January 10), a video surfaced on social media showing DMK Minister KN Nehru slapping Trichy 54th Ward councillor Member of Pushparaj on the head during a Government welfare programme in Trichy.

In the second one, at a function in Salem to felicitate new youth and sports Minister Udhaya Nidhi Stalin, Minister Nehru was caught on camera roughing up cadres who tried to shake hands with the new minister. He caught him by the scruff of his neck and pushed him away. In another incident, In a video, Nehru was heard seeing how money meant to erode east by-elections voters should be distributed and how the polling officials would be given watches and biryani to ensure that the election went in favour of the DMK-led alliance. Another minister Nasar threw a stone at the cadre for the delay in bringing a chair for him.

In July last, a video clip of politician KKSSR Ramachandran, also known as Sattur Ramachandran, allegedly hitting a woman on her head with a petition has gone viral.” Two DMK youth wing functionaries molested a police constable on protection duty in a public meeting in which MPs Kanimozhi and Tamizhachi Thangapandian participated in first week of January in Chennai,” Annamalai tweeted and criticised the CM that he remained a silent spectator to such incidents.

Incidents of manhandling and pinching the waist and inappropriately touching women’s bodies, extorting, demanding biryani, liquor and goods free of cost from shops, and land grabbing involving DMK and allies have also been reported. On November 1, the Chennai cyber crime wing booked DMK spokesperson Saidai Sadiq. He was booked for the lewd remarks he had made about women actors-turned-BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu.

In 24 hrs time, three murders have taken place in the state, i.e. on February 13.

A day after a man accused in a murder case was hacked and shot to death in Coimbatore, a 24- year-old-man was hacked to death near Coimbatore combined court complex. The police shot at two of the five-member gang, which assaulted him with machetes.

On February 12, a five-member gang chased a tender coconut seller; Sathyapandi was shot twice besides being knifed. He was also murdered and accused and came out on bail. A Fish vendor was hacked to death at his stall near Tambaram in full public view by a five-member gang. A Bihar native, Miltram, a construction worker, was pushed down by a gang for refusing to part with money in his possession and died on the spot.

In the Thiruvannamalai district, burglars broke open for ATMs and decamped with RS 75 lakhs in 13 minutes operation using gas gutters. Police have arrested two persons in the February 10 heist at a showroom in the Peravallur burglary case.

The gang decamped with Rs 4.5 crores worth of gold and diamond jewellery.

A Video of an Inspector of police, Paranthama, from Sunguvarchathiram going on a rampage and damaging shops in the locality went viral on social media on February 15. There have been cases of chain and mobile snatching in Chennai and its neighbourhoods.

Three persons, including Rahman, who posed as police and stole 1.4 crore cash, have been arrested. During the probe, it was learnt, He used the same to fund the terror activities and for the murder of Hindu Munnani leader Sureshkumar from Ambattur.

Police arrested six residents of an apartment complex in Karanai in connection with the death of Kshetra Mohan Barman, a construction worker from West Bengal.

DMK and its allies started attacking the constitutional head of the state, viz Governor RN Ravi, in the worst form.
BJP Chief Annamalai and former CM Edapadi K Palaniswamy have raised concern over the state Government’s handling of the law and order situation in the state. The entire cabinet team is campaigning in Erode East Assembly constituency by-poll, giving the least importance to law and order issues.

They said CM is busy accusing opposition and ribbon cutting for projects and releasing gym pictures. Stalin said that he learnt from PM Modi how to talk for hours without responding to anyone’s questions. He also accused the PM of not lodging Rs 15 lakhs to each person’s bank to fulfil his poll promise. The irony the DMK is yet to make its poll promises like bringing total prohibition, a 1000 cash to women every month, monthly based EB consumption reading, abolition of NEET etc.

Now to cap it all, an army man was beaten to death by a DMK councillor in broad daylight, which has sent shivers among peace-loving citizens.

In a most tragic case, a 29-year-old soldier of the Indian Army named Prabhu was beaten to death by ten men, including a DMK Municipal Councillor near Pochampalli in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. Prabhu succumbed to severe injuries sustained last week at a private hospital in Hosur on February 14. He was attacked over an argument about washing clothes. In this connection, DMK councillor R Chinnaswamy and his policeman -son are among nine persons who have been arrested.

On February 8, Prabhakaran and DMK councillor Chinnasamy got into a heated exchange over washing clothes near a tank in the Pochampalli area. That evening, DMK Councilor Chinnaswamy and more than 10 other people attacked Prabhakaran and Prabhu. Both of them were severely injured. Prabhu later lodged a complaint with the Nagarasampatti police. Based on the complaint, the police arrested 6 people, including the DMK Councillor’s son Rajapandi (30) and Gurusuryamoorthi (27), who works as a policeman in Chennai. The gang allegedly attacked Prabhakaran and his brother Prabhu that night. Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai condemned the incident saying that even army soldiers are not safe under the DMK Government.

BJP Scheduled Caste Wing President Tada Periyasamy damaged his car that was parked outside. He hails from Tirumanturai village in the Perambalur district. It is suspected that the Vidhuthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) could be behind the attack. Periyasamy was with the VCK and switched to the BJP a few years later. He had started a movement in 2011 to retrieve ‘Panchami’ lands, i.e., lands granted to the Scheduled Castes during British rule for their livelihood, which cannot be transferred to other caste people. He has been demanding the DMK produce the parent document to the building where its mouthpiece Murasoli daily, is housed. Periyasamy led a delegation to Vengaivayail to inquire about the most inhuman act of mixing human faeces in the water tank meant for distributing water to dalit households. Annamalai said that the attack was because people who did not work for real social justice were feeling threatened by Periyasamy’s work.

Thirumavalavan, on January 30, suspended the VCK’s Thiruvannamalai North District Secretary Pagalavan alias Bhaskaran for disparaging sloganeering against the police and attempting to besiege the Arani Police station. After a video of VCK Bhaskaran threatening a police officer went viral, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Khanna arrested him on the orders of Vellore range DIG Muthusamy.

A case has been filed against 22 people, including Bhaskaran and VCK Union Secretary Ramesh, on the basis of a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Krishnamoorthy that they prevented a Government employee from working at the Arani Town Police Station. Both arrested individuals were brought before Justice Karthikeyan in Arani Court and were remanded in Vellore Central Jail for 15 days.

In this situation, VCK District secretary Pagalavan alias Bhaskaran, who was released on bail after 15 days, began a procession on the road with fellow VCK goons from the Vellore jail. The procession passed through Arani Police Station, where SI Krishnamoorthy was working. While standing in front of the police station, the VCK goons yelled slogans such as ‘Echa Police’, ‘veri naai police’ (Rabid Dog police) and ‘Police Naaye Veli vaa‘ (Police dog come out and more cuss words).

Political commentator Rajesh said, “the present happening is not augur well for the state, its economy, growth and welfare of people . DMK, which captured power, after ten year political decimation, on the basis of advice given by poll strategist Prashant Kishore and giving false promises. They are like fish out of water case and now the power makes them to unleash violence, making money, indulged in unlawful activities. Definitely people, who voted for DMK as promised a new better dawn, now repenting their act. Most of the arrests and searches conducted by the NIA are from the state. It is a haven for separatists, fundamental groups, religious conversion groups and anti-social elements”.
