Woman’s body found in freezer at Dhaba in Delhi’s Najafgarh, owner arrested

A body of a 25-year-old woman was recovered from a dhaba situated on the outskirt's Mitraon village in Delhi's Najafgarh area. Delhi Police has arrested the dhaba's owner, Sahil Gahlot, who was in a live-in relationship with the deceased

New Delhi: A man was arrested for the alleged murder of his live-in partner and storing her body in a refrigerator at his dhaba situated on the outskirts of Mitraon village in Delhi’s Najafgarh area. The accused has been identified as Sahil Gahlot, the dhaba’s owner, where the victim’s body was stored.

Ravindra Singh Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police, has said that “the accused strangulated the deceased with the help of a data cable of his mobile in his car on the intervening night of 9/10 February 2023 and stuffed the dead body in a refrigerator kept at his dhaba at Mitraon village, Delhi. The accused and the deceased were in a relationship for the past few years.”

The police said that they received the input on February 10, 2023, and the team reached Mitraon village in search of the accused, who was absconding. The police later apprehended him from Kair village. The police said that while the accused tried to mislead them during the initial interrogation, on “sustained interrogation, he disclosed that he had killed his girlfriend in the intervening night of February 9-10, 2023 and kept her dead body in a refrigerator at his dhaba in a vacant plot situated on the outskirts of village Mitraon.”

The accused did not inform his parents about his relationship with the victim. The accused’s family was pressuring him to get married to another girl, and their engagement and marriage were scheduled for February 9, 10, 2023, respectively. The police have said that the “accused did not inform the deceased about his engagement or marriage plans.” However, according to the police, the deceased found out about the accused’s marriage, and she confronted him, leading to an argument between the two. As a result, the accused strangulated the deceased in a rage. The accused went to his home and married another girl on 10th February 2023.

This case is a shocking reminder of the Shraddha Walkar case, where the accused, Aftab Amin Poonawalla, allegedly murdered his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar over his affair with other girls. Aftab said, according to the chargesheet, “Shraddha learnt that I had affairs with other girls. She came to know that I used to talk to other girls on Bumble app which led to arguments between us. She had known that I was cheating on her but as we used to drink together, we would solve our issues.” He has confessed, as per the chargesheet, that he “wanted to get rid of her habit of hurling abuses and decided to kill her. I pushed her on the floor and sat on her chest. I pressed her throat until she died. I chopped her body into pieces and packed it into bags.”
