Assam: Nagaon police rescued 87 cows in four operations against cow smuggling, arrested 7 smugglers

Assam police have arrested 1600 cattle smugglers while rescuing more than 14000 cattle and seized 717 vehicles

Guwahati: Amid high vigil by the security forces, cow smuggler rackets are still active in Assam. Hundreds of times, police have foiled the smuggling attempts of cow smugglers, but they are attempting new ways to smuggle cows out of the state. Nagaon police on Saturday night intercepted one TATA LPT truck bearing Reg. No. AS25 EC9833 loaded with a total of 23 (4 found dead) cattle heads on national highway 37. The cattle heads and the vehicle were seized. Two cow smugglers, namely Mohd Akkash Ali and Mohd Tabajul Hussain, was apprehended.

Based on reliable input, a team led by Rupjyoti Kalita, Additional SP Nagaon police, intercepted one container truck bearing Reg. No. HR 55 Q7358 loaded with 30 cattle heads at Saragaon area under Raha police station on Saturday night. Thirty cows were being illegally transported from Bokakhat of Golaghat District towards 19 Mile in Guwahati. Accordingly, the cattles heads and the vehicle were seized.

The driver of the vehicle, namely Ikramul Haque, was apprehended. The cows were transported to smuggle to Bangladesh via Meghalaya.

On February 11 morning, Nagaon police intercepted one vehicle bearing Registration number NL01 AC6963 loaded with 24 cattle heads (2 found dead) being illegally transported from Golaghat district towards the Jorabat side in Assam Meghalaya border. The cattle heads, along with the vehicle, were seized. Two cow smugglers Mohd Sahajul Hoque and Mohd Akash Ali has been arrested. These cows were also illegally transported towards Meghalaya to smuggle to Bangladesh.

On February 11 evening, acting on a source of information, Nagaon police intercepted one Bolero Pick Up vehicle in the Jakhalabandha area loaded with ten cattle heads which were being illegally transported from Golaghat district towards Nagaon. The cattle were kept concealed under plastic vegetable boxes.

Two cattle smugglers, namely Nazibur Rahman and Dildar Hussain, were arrested. It should be mentioned that Nagaon police on Saturday successfully conducted four operations within a span of 24 hours and recovered 87 cows (6 were found dead while carrying in cruel manner) on their way to the slaughterhouse. The police also arrested seven cow smugglers. Assam police have arrested 1600 cattle smugglers while rescuing more than 1400 cattle and seized 717 vehicles.
