A women constable of Bihar police identified as Prabha Bharti was shot dead by one Mohammad Hasan alias Hasan Arshad on February 8. The incident occurred when the female constable was walking on the streets near Bhatwara village under Kodha police station limits of Katihar.

As per the reports the accused Hasan had befriended Prabha a couple of years ago with a fake identity and was constantly pressuring her for marriage, Hasan was also threatening Prabha for dire consequences if she chooses to turn down his proposal.

It’s has been reported that Prabha had gone for duty in Samadhan Yatra in Munger following which she spent a day at her village in Jamalpur and returned back to Katihar, As per the police version, after returning from Munger, Prabha had gone with Arshad where the latter after reaching a deserted area shot her twice before fleeing the spot.

Pratibha was posted in the Katihar police station and was residing in the police line, she was about to report on duty and was wearing boots when she was shot dead, a bag along with the cellphone of the deceased has been recovered from the site of murder.

Briefing the media on the incident SP Katihar, Jitendra Kumar said that the “police has registered a FIR against 7 persons identified as Mohammad Hasan, Mohammad Kadir, Sonu, Mohammad Danish, Mohammad Sajjad, Monu and Priyas, one of them Kadir has been arrested and being interrogated while the main accused Hasan Arshad is still absconding.”

Meanwhile Pratima Kumari the elder sister of the deceased has stated that the accused Hasan had been harassing Prabha for a year to which she had also lodged an oral complaint in the women’s police station in Katihar, however the police didn’t take her request seriously.

According to Pratima, her sister was in a mental trauma as Hasan used to call her at odd times and threaten to disclose his private stuff in public. “A year ago they were in a relationship but Prabha has broken up with Hasan in recent times but despite that Hasan was constantly pressuring her to get married, we seek justice,” added Pratima.

It is worth to note that incidents pertaining to love jihad are not a rare phenomenon in the Seemanchal region of the state, where cases related to befriending Hindu girls with a fake identity have been widely reported in the recent times, though this is the first time that a police constable itself has been a victim of such misdeed.
