India’s G-20 Presidency will be decisive, inclusive and outcome-oriented: G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant

On January 27, 2023, the G-20 Sherpa for India, Amitabh Kant, in a press conference stated that India’s presidency will be decisive, inclusive, and outcome-oriented.

Kant also highlighted the importance of the G-20 as it comprises 85% of the global GDP, 78% of global trade and two-thirds of the world population.

A new engagement group-Startup20 has been established as a part of the G-20 Presidency. The main aim is to develop a global narrative for supporting startups, corporations, investors and innovation agencies.

Additionally, the primary objective is to harmonise the global start-up ecosystem through a collaborative and forward-looking approach.

As part of the official statement, the purpose of this group is to provide common platforms for start-ups from G-20 member nations and to come together to develop actionable guidance in the form of building enablers capacity, identifying fund gaps, and enhancement of employment opportunities and achieving Sustainable Development Goals along with climate resilience and growth of an inclusive ecosystem.

The Start-up 20 activities will cover five events.

The inception meeting will take place in Hyderabad on January 28-29 2023, the summit event will happen in July 2023 in Gurugram with three intervening events in different parts of India.

According to a press release, the participating countries include delegates from G-20 countries and nine observer nations overseas. A total of 80 delegates will be expected. There are a total of 100 Indian delegates including investors, startups, industry partners and among others.
