Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on January 20 called Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s statements regarding him misleading, untrue and derogatory.
In a letter to Delhi CM, the LG wrote that the CM’s question on who the LG was could very well be answered if one went through the Constitution of India.
“As to ‘who is LG’ and ‘where did he come from’, etc can we answered if you were to even cursorily refer to the Constitution of India. Others do not deserve a reply, since they obviously cater to a very low level of discourse,” VK Saxena wrote in a four-page letter to Kejriwal.
The letter refers to Delhi CM Kejriwal’s charge that the Lieutenant Governor has blocked a teachers’ training visit to Finland and that he refused to meet with AAP MLAs who marched in protest to his house earlier this week.
The Delhi LG, in his letter, also wrote about Kejriwal’s “Head Master” comment on him. “I am not acting as a “Head Master”, as you have been sarcastically referring to me, but as a benign yet conscientious voice of the people that derives its sanctity from the ethical and moral moorings of the Constitution of India,” he wrote.
He also attacked Kejriwal for the alleged short attendance in government schools in the national capital. He said that the attendance of students in government schools in Delhi fell from 70.73 per cent in 2012-2013 to 60.65 per cent in 2019-2020.
He said that the number of students going to private schools has increased in Delhi, as opposed to CM Kejriwal’s claims.
“While the share of private schools in 2013-2014 was 35 per cent, the same went up to 43 per cent in 2019-2020, and despite migration from private schools to government schools due to the pandemic distress, this number yet hovers around 40 per cent,” VK Saxena claimed.
VK Saxena also said that he had invited the Delhi CM, Kejriwal and Deputy CM, Manish Sisodia, for talks, but they chose to come to him with 80 people and went on to “make a convenient political posture that LG refused to meet me”.
“I would have, indeed, loved to have you over and served you lunch as well,” VK Saxena said.
“You would appreciate that, given the short notice and sudden demand on your part, it would not have been possible to at once have a meeting with 70-80 people, nor would it have served any concrete purpose,” the letter reads.
The LG Saxena further writes, “I was rather astounded at the fact that even as the city is grappling with several serious developmental issues, you found time to walk for long and stage a protest meant solely for posturing, rather than taking the issue to a logical conclusion by meeting me.”
The Delhi LG also wrote about the teacher’s tour to Finland and said that he did not reject the proposal.
Earlier on January 17, Delhi CM Kejriwal, while addressing the Delhi Assembly, said, “The LG is not my headmaster. Who is LG, where has he come from? He is sitting on our heads”.
