Mumbai (Maharashtra): On January 18, Mumbai police booked Faraz Malik, son of former minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik, in a case pertaining to alleged submission of forged documents for his wife Hamleen’s visa extension.
The Kurla police have filed a complaint under the Foreigners Act of 1946 and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code against Faraz Mailk and his wife, a French citizen. A Special Branch officer’s complaint led to the filing of the case.
On the basis of primary information, the police registered the FIR late January 17 night against Faraz Malik and his wife under various Indian Penal Code Sections including 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 34 (common intention) and provisions of the Foreigners Act, the official said.
The police claim that Malik’s son produced false documents in Kurla between March 2 and June 23 of last year and submitted them.
The manipulation or forging of documents took place in 2020, the police stated. Apart from Faraz and Hamleen, the police also booked others in connection with the case.
Hamlin came to India in 2020 on the basis of the forged papers provided to her, the police said, adding that the Special Branch Officer learned of the forgery during an investigation and lodged a formal complaint with Kurla police.
