National Film Festival ‘Chalachitram’ held in Assam’s Guwahati; Over 20 critically acclaimed short films screened

Guwahati: The National Film Festival of “Chalachitram” began in Guwahati on January 05. The two-day film festival will screen many critically acclaimed short films for movie lovers.

The National Film Festival is celebrated every year under the initiative of Chalachitram, a subsidiary of the Vishwa Sangbad Kendra (VSK), Assam.

The 2023 National Film Festival began at 11 am on January 05 with the lighting of a lamp at the auditorium of Jyoti Chitraban in Guwahati. Renowned director Aditya Patwardhan and actress Kankana Chakraborty inaugurated this edition of the Chalachitram by lighting the lamp.

The festival opened with the critically acclaimed short film ” The Land of Hidden Treasures” by Sanaton Karmakar. The movie on the Old Dhulia Culture of Kamrup was also screened on the opening day. Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra President Jeetul Sonowal and other dignitaries like Bhupen Kaman, Banalata Baishya, Namrata Dutta etc., were present at the inauguration ceremony.

In another event in the afternoon, the English book ‘Literature and Film from Mute to Motion’ written by Dr Deepshikha Bhagwati, was released. The short film ‘By Lane Two’, based on his life, was screened to coincide with the memorial day of Pavitra Deka.

Ranjan Ghosh’s Bengali film ‘Mahishasura Mardini’ was screened in the afternoon. Veteran film critic Apurba Sharma congratulated him at the beginning of the screening. Director Ghosh felicitated Apurba Sharma. On the other hand, the screening of the films started at 11 am on January 06. Short films like Bajona by Rhituraj Dutta and Kishan Parv Pola by Dr Surabhi Biplove have been screened at the festival. Chairman Utpal Dutta and Secretary Bhagavata Pritam said in a press release.

The internationally acclaimed film ‘A Nomad River’ was also screened in the afternoon. It is to be noted that Sadhguru took part in this film and grabbed the media headlines.
