Tensed situation prevailed at the heart of the Dandakaranya region of Chhattisgarh after a group of Fanatic Evangelists attacked Local Vanvasis in the morning hours of Christian New Year in Narayanpur District. As per the reports, a mob of around 200 fanatic Christians attacked local tribes in the Gorra village of Narayanpur on January 1 morning. It’s been learnt that the evangelists had assembled for the morning prayers, and then they attacked the Vanvasis, who were participating in a local meetup in the village.

It’s been reported that the authorities of the local Church have provoked the mob, and the attack was pre-planned in nature; more than a dozen Vanvasi were injured in the attack who were later treated in the nearby hospital, among the injured are Ramsingh Dugga, Singhlu Ram, Lachhan Kange and his companions.

According to the information received, the Christian groups have been running rampant conversion programmes in the region, which the local Vanvasi are against of. It’s been learnt that the local Hindu community have been continuously warning the Church and the people associated with them against converting people by means of fallacy, however the Christian groups are not only promoting conversion through all the illegal means but now they have also started to target the voices souring against them through violence.

According to the eyewitnesses, it was pastor Jayram and Baazaru Dugga who were leading the mob and unleashed a reign on terror on the January 1, morning, it’s been reported that once the police reached the spot they were also subjected to violence by the fanatic mob in which Thana Incharge of Edka, Y. S Joshi has sustained serious injuries, he has been referred to Jagdalpur for further treatment.

It should be noted that Christian Missionaries have been continuously running conversion programmes in this region and have been able to convert a marginal section of the Vanvasi society into Christianity. It has also come to the fore that exorcism and superstition have been widely used to convert the local Vanvasi after which they have been asked to make mockery of Hindu rituals and worship patterns.

As per the villagers, many a times the local Hindu Vanvasi community have complained to the authorities about the misdeeds of the missionaries, However despite that the local community have opposed the conversion sorcery of the evangelists tooth and nail, the local authorities have been keeping a blind eye on their illegal misdeeds.

In fact, in the tribal dominated areas of Bastar on the provocation of local Churches, the converted Christians are not only opposing the centuries old rituals and traditions of the local Hindu Vanvasi community but also ridiculing it fiercely which has led to similar small clashes between the local community and the fanatic group.
