Jammu & Kashmir: As many as four terrorists travelling in a truck to Srinagar were killed in an encounter in the Sidhra area of Jammu on December 28 morning.

ADGP Mukesh Singh said that a Quick Response Team on the national highway noticed an unusual movement of a truck and started following it. As the vehicle reached the Naka at Sidhra bridge around 7 am, the police signalled it to stop and asked the driver to step out. The driver responded but escaped, taking advantage of the dense fog.

The police and security forces then started searching the truck, prompting the militants hiding inside to open fire, which led to retaliatory firing by the search parties, the police said. Security forces immediately cordoned off the vehicle and stopped the movement of vehicular traffic on that stretch of the highway. During the exchange of fire, the terrorists were killed and the vehicle caught fire, the police said.

Yesterday, a major terrorist attack was averted in Udhampur near Jammu after a 15 kg improvised explosive device was defused by the police.

Police also recovered a coded sheet and letter pad page of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and detained a suspect.

The police also recovered seven AK-47 rifles and three pistols, along with other ammunition, from the truck.

Earlier on December 23, National Investigating agency (NIA) carried out searches at fourteen locations in J&K against people involved in spreading terrorist activities in the Union Territory.

During the raid, various incriminating materials such as digital devices, SIM cards and digital storage devices have been seized, the NIA said in a statement.

Recently, the Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in an address mentioned that there has been a substantial decline in terrorist attacks, from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021. One hundred eighty terrorist have been killed in J&K this year.
