Assam CM launches projects worth over Rs 973cr in Dibrugarh

Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while laying the foundation stones and inaugurating projects worth Rs 973.38 crores for the Dibrugarh District on December 24, urged the people to lead an economic revolution to give a major fillip to the overall development of the State.

Attending the Bikakhor-Babe-Eta-Pokhek programme at Tingkhong, Sarma commented that the State witnessed many agitations, dharnas and hartals over the years, but it is time to concentrate on rejuvenating the intellectual, cultural and developmental landscape of Assam.

He also announced that to strengthen the Buridihing riverbank, around Rs 250 crores will be spent. Sarma stated that the Government plans to set up a zoo at Tingkhong and celebrate Me-Dam-Me-Phi centrally at Tipam. He also informed that the road from Moran to Digboi, passing through Naharkatia, will be upgraded to a double-lane passage to boost land connectivity in the area.

6000 new beneficiaries under the Orunodoi scheme this year and another 6000 next year will be included besides ration cards to 5000 low-income families will be provided, Sarma promised. Families having ration cards will be entitled to free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. Sarma also revealed that to strengthen academic infrastructure, the Government will spend around Rs 7 to 8 crores on each high school in the State.

He laid the foundation stones for setting up mini stadiums at Na Gaon public field, Naharkatia, Rajgarh in Tingkhong, Lahowal & Duliajan, a rural sports complex at Abhoipur in Moran, upgradation of ITIs located at Lahowal & Dibrugarh, government polytechnic at Lahowal, the auditorium at HS Kanoi College, strengthening and widening of Bhadoi Panchali-Joypore Khunsa road via Tipam, construction of Moran-Naharkatia road, construction of Mohanaghat- Mohmari Pathar road, the road cum embankment from Mohmari Pathar to Madhupur and from Oakland to Maijan tea estate, road-over-bridge at Madhavpur-Tipling railway crossing, construction of power sub-stations at Khemeria, Belbari Tinali and Japisajia, etc.

In the presence of Union Minister Rameswar Teli, State Ministers Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Keshab Mahanta, Bimal Bora, legislators Prasanta Phukan, Taranga Gogoi, Teros Gowala, and Chakradhar Gogoi, etc., the Chief Minister also inaugurated the dental college at Dibrugarh AMCH, Tingkhong PWD inspection bungalow, 24 number piped water supply scheme under Dibrugarh JJM and the water resources department’s project facilitation centre cum guest house in Dibrugarh.
