New Delhi :  If Veer Lachit Barphukan were not there, North East wouldn’t have been a part of India now- Home Minister Amit Shah said this in New Delhi while speaking at the 400th birth anniversary celebration of Veer Lachit Barphukan.

HM Shah said that Veer Lachit Barphukan had great favour not only to the people of the Northeast but to the country and our civilization and culture. It was veer Lachit who saved the easternmost part of our country from Islamisation and preserved the purest form of our society in the region.

Home minister Shah mentioned that a section of historians intentionally wrongly represented India’s history. He urged all the students and professors of the country’s history to rewrite history correctly. HM Shah said,” who stopped us to rewrite our history in the correct form. We should rewrite the history of at least 30 such kingdoms who had ruled in different parts of our country for 150 or more years. History should be rewritten about 300 such bravehearts who had fought, won battles, lived their life for the country and even laid their life for the pride of the country.

Our government will always encourage such novel attempts.” He further said that a nation which doesn’t take pride in its glorious past and doesn’t take lessons from history couldn’t build a golden future.

HM Shah also urged the Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma, to initiate publishing books on Veer Lachit in at least 10 Indian languages along with the Hindi language so that the new generation of our country could learn about the courage, bravery and patriotism of the most outstanding Ahom General.Thanking the Assam government for organizing the 400th birth anniversary of Veer Lachit in New Delhi, home minister Amit Shah said that the other name of courage is Lachit Barphukan.

HM Shah mentioned that from the rule of Maharaja Prithu to the power of Ahom kings, Islamic invaders attacked the region 22 times. But from Bakhtiyar Khilji to Aurangzeb, not a single invader could conquer Assam. That was because of true patriotism and valour, Shah added. It should be mentioned that the Assam CM announced that the police training academy in Dergaon will be named after Veer Lachit. A statue of Veer Lachit will be placed in the National Police Training Academy in Hyderabad.

Home minister Amit Shah also visited the exhibition on 2000 years of Assam’s history in Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
