Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday ceremonially inaugurated the Kaliabor sub-division civil hospital, built at a cost of ₹16.25 crore, at the sub-divisional headquarter of Nagaon district. The three-storeyed state-of-the-art hospital should be able to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of local people to a great extent, commented Sarma.

He further added that the State government has been contemplating upgrading the sub-divisional civil = hospital to a 200-bedded district hospital. Sarma expressed gratitude towards Boeing India for donating
the high-tech equipment such as CT-scan machines to the hospital. Referring to the resolution of transforming Assam into one of the top-performing States on various healthcare-related parameters, Sarma said the current dispensation is working tirelessly to achieve that end.

From just three medical colleges recently, the State can boast of nine institutions dedicated to study of medical sciences, asserted Sarma adding the plan is to take the number of medical colleges to 16 by
2026. He further stated, from just a single cancer hospital earlier, Assam is now having nine hospitals dedicated to cancer care. In a few years, the total number of cancer hospitals in the State would go up to 18, he announced.

Speaking on the subject of health insurance as a necessary measure for timely access to best-available health services, Sarma termed Atal Amrit and Ayushman Bharat schemes as best welfare policies of the government. He urged everyone to cooperate with the government in the ongoing Aadhaar-seeding of Atal Amrit and Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries, so that maximum number of people can avail benefits of
both the schemes.

State health minister Keshab Mahanta, Nagaon district guardian minister Parimal Shuklabadya, NHM mission director MS Laxmi Priya, Boeing India chief of staff Praveena Yangambhat and a number of dignitaries were present on the occasion. Earlier, CM Sarma visited Kamakhya Devalaya on a Kaliabor hilltop near mighty river Brahmaputra to offer prayers at the shakti peeth.
