“Sangh is working to awaken the society, unify it and make it more organised as a single entity…so that India can emerge as a model society for the entire world,” said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat at the ‘Suyash: Samaj Upyogi Yuva Shakti’ in New Delhi on August 21.

Dr Bhagwat was speaking at the event organised by the RSS Delhi Prant at Ambedkar International Centre on the various social welfare activities carried out by individuals and organisations.

At the event, young people and organisations doing social work in various fields were invited where some of them also shared their experiences. The Sarsanghchalak said that the aim of Suyash is not to gain numbers or popularity and not to provide a platform to anyone, but to bring forth the youth power to make India a Vishwa Guru.

Delegates and dignitaries at the event

He reiterated the importance of working as one society. “Many personalities from different sections of the society sacrificed and contributed to the country’s Independence, but it took time for us to flourish as one society,” Dr Bhagwat said.

Addressing the gathering Dr Bhagwat stressed the need to work for society without thinking about individual interests. He stressed on the collective effort needed to bring about this unifying change. “People should come forward in serving society as a community and not as an individual,” added Dr Bhagwat.

“It is the basic nature and DNA of Indians that they think like society and not individuals and we need to further encourage them. We need to prioritise us above ‘my and mine’ while doing welfare work and this will help us evolve as a society,” the Sarsanghchalak added.

Emphasising the need to adopt a positive attitude, Sarsanghchalak said that rather than getting disappointed at a few bad things happening in society, we should focus on uncountable good things happening in society. Many good works of welfare and social services are being done in the country. The programme was attended by 707 representatives of different NGOs working in Delhi. About 30 of these delegates shared their experiences.

One of the delegates, Manika Badwar, Director of Rasoi On Wheels Foundation, told the Organiser, “Our food van serves 1,500 meals in a day and prepares roughly about 50,000 meals in a month covering old-age homes, visually impaired homes, bastis, where not everybody reaches. Little children come to bastis with an empty stomach and we feed them. Our idea is to provide them with a meal for at least one time”.

Rasoi On Wheels is a mobile kitchen service that is providing packed meal boxes to the underprivileged section of society. These meal boxes are ideally suited for distribution amongst the needy at vantage places like slums, orphanages, old age homes, schools, hospitals & any other places since the hungry & underprivileged are everywhere.

Another delegate, Hemlata Varun, founder of Suta Foundation said, “We work on improving the health care of women and also provide them legal aide. We identify 30 cluster areas every month and provide free sanitary napkins and basic healthcare to them for three months”.

Amit Kumar of Join Together said that his NGO works on the rule of ‘We’ and not ‘I’, as all the members of our NGO give a small proportion of their income to this noble cause. “Till now we have provided education to 3,000 children. We encourage each child to be engaged in every activity which will expand their horizons and nurture their hidden talent.,” he added. The NGO also works for cancer patients by organising hair donation camps as donating hair is an easy way to help people who have experienced hair loss due to chemo or other medical treatment. With these hair donations, the NGO produces wigs that are provided free of cost to people suffering from cancer.
