New Delhi: The Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs have set the ball rolling for
preparing the ground to host the prestigious G-20 Leaders’ Summit for the first time in India in 2023
India will assume the G 20 Presidency on December 1, 2022 from Indonesia.
The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir administration has set up a five-member panel for coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
“Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a committee for overall coordination of G-20 meetings to be held in the Union Territory of J&K,” says a J&K Govt order.
India’s representation at G20 summits has been led by Prime Minister Modi since 2014.
The G20 countries include India, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United States and the United Kingdom.
On Monday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai met G-20 Summit Chief Coordinator and former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla.
The G20 is making an immense contribution for the growth of world economy and development, and for the first time, India is getting the opportunity to head it, Shringla said.
“In accordance with Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi’s wish, a series of G20 related meets would be held in various parts of India. There are plans to hold about 10 meets in Karnataka,” he said.
Chief Minister Bommai said that Karnataka has ties with all the nations which are part of G20, and so it is only apt to hold these meets in Karnataka.
“Only a mass leader like PM Narendra Modi could find a permanent place in people’s hearts. It is not easy to evoke the confidence and fulfill the aspirations of 130 crore people of diverse languages, cultures, castes and religions,” the Chief Minister said.
India will be part of the G20 Troika (preceding, current, and incoming G20 Presidencies) from December 1, 2021, till November 30, 2024.
G20 brings together 19 of the world’s leading economies and the European Union, with its members accounting for more than 80 per cent of global GDP, 75 per cent of global trade and 60 per cent of the global population.
