New Delhi: The government-run All India Radio, the largest radio network in the world, has been voted the most trusted electronic media organisation in the country by a survey conducted by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.

According to the survey, All India Radio and Doordarshan enjoy the highest trust across 46 countries.

The survey says several television channels in India are “infamous for sensationalising news and conducting polarised debates”, though the print and news broadcast platforms are generally self-regulated in India.

On the global stage, the survey says, the BBC has come “under criticism from both left and right” over perceived bias in its news coverage, with the data showing over a quarter (26%) have little trust in the news
brand compared.

“Senior correspondents have suffered physical attacks offline, along with personal abuse on social media, while some BBC veterans have left for rival broadcasters that are able to offer more freedom, money, or both,” it says.

The Digital News Report, 2022 of the Reuters Institute, said print brands and public broadcasters, such as All India Radio and DD News, continue to enjoy high trust among the survey respondents, while 24-hour
television news channels are ‘less well trusted’ along with newer digital-born brands.

The survey of the Indian News brands by the Reuters Institute shows the authenticity and accuracy of News by All India Radio and DD News stand at 72 per cent and 71 per cent.

According to the report, apart from the high level of trust in AIR News and DD News, which continues to grow, even the reach of both All India Radio and DD News has increased.

The Reuters Institute said its Digital News Report 2022 measured the digital news consumption based on a YouGov survey of over 93 thousand online news consumers in 46 markets, covering half of the world’s population.

‘The Times of India’ scored the highest in terms of brand trustworthiness, at 75 per cent.
