“Reuters-You can do better”: US Envoy Sergio Gor slams British news agency over fake narrative on India-US trade deal

“Reuters-You can do better”, said US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and sharply rebuked Reuters for spreading fake news about the India-US trade deal. The news agency indeed has a history of escalating disinformation campaign & false narratives targeting India, while conceding its loyalty to Pakistan. During Operation Sindoor, while New Delhi championed the sovereignty & integrity of Kashmir, Reuters has amplified massive anti-India propaganda and misled the people!

“Reuters-You can do better”! This was a sharp rebuke by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor for the Reuters news agency who has indulged in a disinformation campaign and misleading the masses about the prospects of the India-US trade deal. Sergio Gor’s criticism comes just a day after Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal slammed Reuters for amplifying fake narratives about the India-US interim trade agreement.

Post the recent India-US trade talks, Reuters, a news agency reported that New Delhi rejected a quick trade agreement with Washington DC. It also exclaimed, “India is holding out for a better deal as Prime Minister Narendra Modi draws confidence from new trading partners, eased economic risks and political gains at home”. Reuters claimed this statement as given by the officials and the analysts.

However, these statements are completely fabricated and are clearly an anti-India propaganda machine. The statement resonates with its aim, which is creating bilateral rift between India and the US. Derailing the trust and diplomatic momentum by misleading the officials, analysts, policy experts and people in both the countries by putting out false information.

Thus, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal debunked such disinformation campaign by Reuters and wrote, “This news is completely false, baseless and misleading. I had fantastic meetings with USTR Jamieson Greer, when he visited Delhi in June. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to an agreement that is balanced, commercially meaningful and delivers tangible benefits for businesses, farmers, workers and consumers in both countries. Our teams remain fully engaged in achieving this objective”.

Similarly, US Ambassador Sergio Gor slammed Reuters for spreading fake narratives. “Fake news alert! No one has rejected anything. Both sides had very constructive meetings and reaffirmed their commitment to finalizing a trade deal. We continue to stay actively engaged. Reuters – you can do better!”, wrote US Envoy Gor.

This was a steep and straight exposure of the anti-India propaganda outlet. Both India and the US have reinforced their confidence in a fair trade deal and remain committed to continued discussions and diplomacy. No, propaganda networks can run an anti-India narrative bank to fuel rifts in the bilateral partnership and cannot instil bilateral scepticism.

History of Reuters as an anti-India outlet and its loyalty to Pakistan

Meanwhile, this is not the maiden time that Reuters has escalated a false narrative against India. It indeed has a history to its anti-India manoeuvring and has repeatedly & clearly outshown its loyalty towards Pakistan. Reuters has spoken against the integrity of Kashmir to India, it has published news against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and has expressed its biased affiliations to Pakistan’s fake narrative ecosystem.

For example, the Indian Army under Operation Mahadev killed three terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir(J&K) in July. These terrorists were affiliated to Pakistan-based notorious Lashkar-e-Taiba(LeT) terror outfit and were the masterminds behind the heinous Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, 2025, where terrorists killed civilians and tourists for being Hindus. However, Reuters didn’t mention the encounter of terrorists under Operation Mahadev as “terrorists”. Instead, they simply mentioned “Indian Army says three men killed after fire fight in Indian Kashmir”.

With this statement, Reuters has defamed the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India, by mentioning Indian Kashmir. However, J&K in its entirety, is an integral part of India. It is Pakistan who has been infiltrated into Kashmir and is channelising a terror network by illegally occupying the Indian territory. Such statements also reflect Reuters’s clear affiliation to Pakistan and its fake narratives. This is not an isolated incident. But, Reuters has continuously attempted to delegitimize the sovereignty and national security of India by espousing pro-Pakistan and anti-India narratives.

The propaganda machine of Reuters further went to a drastic extent to defame the defensive capabilities and national security architecture of India. During Operation Sindoor, Reuters published an article which stated, Pakistan’s Chinese imported J-10C jets shot down the Rafale fighter aircrafts of India. Thus, Reuters runs an orchestrated and well-calculated anti-India campaign with a clear intention of derailing the growth momentum of India, which is the fourth largest economy and to defame the country on the global stage.

Reuters is a British News Agency, based in London and is a part of the western media network who hitherto runs biased news about India and defames the country as weak, unstable by irrationally amplifying its propaganda machine. Similarly, during the 2025 Air India crash in Ahmedabad, before even the preliminary investigation report arrived, Reuters blamed the Indian pilots and framed the incident as human error. Even when the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau(AAIB) issued a preliminary report, Reuters cherry-picked information to once again scapegoat the Indian crew.

Infact, in one of the articles, Reuters claimed that India has reduced its oil purchases from Russia under pressure from the United States and after the tariff threats from President Trump. This article mentioned unanimous sources, without clarifying the exact credentials. However, this fake narrative was outrightly debunked by New Delhi and clarified that no such instructions were given to oil companies.

This is the history of Reuters, who unapologetically runs an anti-India propaganda machine!
