An Islamic cleric in Nagpur threatened Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal for their comments on Muhammad’s life and said death is the punishment for those who attack Muhammad and his honour.

In a press conference organised by Minorities Democratic Party on June 5, 2022, in Nagpur, the President of Iman Tanzim Islamic, Hamid Engineer, reacted to Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal’s comments on Muhammad and threatened the former BJP leaders that they wouldn’t be spared. In the video shared by Middle East Media Research Institute, Hamid threatened Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal for their comments on Muhammad and warned that “No one can stop you (from being killed).”

Speaking at the conference, he said, “To attack the honorable Prophet Mohammed and to attack his honor, there is only one consequence of this – and that is death. No one can stop you (from being killed). You are signing a suicide note (by making such remarks). Kamlesh Tiwari was killed after five years. People killed him after five years by entering his home. Don’t think that, if the issue is resolved today, you will be spared. So better you don’t commit blasphemy.”

BJP leader Kamlesh Tiwari was killed by Islamists on October 18, 2019, for commenting on Muhammad in 2015. Despite arresting Tiwari for his alleged derogatory comments on Muhammad, the Islamists were not satisfied, and he was brutally killed at his residence in Lucknow.

As for Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, this isn’t the first time both the leaders have received this kind of threat from radical Islamists.

Naveen Jindal, on June 11, shared a screenshot of a phone number from which he received threatening messages. He said he and his family were being threatened by unknown people. He shared the phone number on social media, and tagged Delhi Police and Lt Governor to take action.

Ever since alleged fact-checker and Alt News co-founder Muhammad Zubair twisted the comments of Nupur Sharma on Muhammad’s life in his 85-second video on social media, Islamists have been issuing several rape and death threats to the former spokesperson of the BJP.

Several vested interests within the country and outside are taking advantage of the situation and are trying to disturb the peace in the country. Islamists, on June 10, took to the streets after Friday prayer in several cities and vandalised the public property in the name of protest.

Despite apologising on social media for her comments on Muhammad’s life, Islamists did not satisfy and have been issuing several rape and death threats to Nupur Sharma. AIMIM (Inquilab) leader Qavi Abbasi announced a bounty of 1 crore on the former spokesperson of the BJP. Reflecting the Taliban style of punishment, an effigy of Nupur Sharma was found hanging near a Dargah in Karnataka’s Belagavi.

Terrorist organisations Al-Qaeda and Islamic State Khorasan Province warned India of suicide bombings. Several Islamic nations lodged their protest by summoning Indian Ambassadors.

Iran’s Tehran Times earlier posted a fake protest video on social media and claimed Muslims came out on the streets condemning Nupur Sharma’s comment on Muhammad’s life. Social media influencer Anshul Saxena busted propaganda and set the facts straight by proving that the crowd gathered in the video was from Pakistan in 2021.
