Questioning of ED is happening under constitutional provision, says BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said questioning by ED in the National Herald case is happening under a constitutional provision, as the matter is pending before a court of law, and Rahul Gandhi is out on bail in the same case.

The BJP on Monday (June 13) lashed out at Congress for the protest drama and said the questioning by ED is happening under a constitutional provision.

“The matter is pending before a court of law, and it is a matter of fact that Rahul Gandhi is out on bail in the National Herald case,” said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.

He also said Congress’s conduct on Monday, June 13, by staging protest and Satyagraha in a corruption case has hurt millions of Indians who cherish Gandhian principles.

“Till today, no one knew that one can stage Satyagraha over a corruption case,” Patra said, even as Congress leaders and workers have been detained in a number of places in the city.

The last UPA regime was at the receiving end of at least half a dozen corruption charges.

Around 2011-12, the fungus of corruption had eaten into all spheres of Congress structures virtually. The credibility of UPA got shockers.

There was gross impropriety in the coal blocks allocation — something that ended at the prime minister Manmohan Singh’s doorstep.

Coal block allocations for private firms started in 1993, two years after the government liberalized its economic policies. But never before 2011 did such a scam come out.

Earlier, the CAG had alluded to kickbacks and dubious deals in the allocation of 2G telecom licences, leading to a Rs 176 lakh crore (US$32 billion) loss. Corruption on a massive scale was also alleged in the organizing of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010, as well as a housing scheme for widows of war victims in Mumbai and the privatization of Delhi airport.

These scandals all resulted in a round of resignations and the imprisonment of several ministers and executives. A Raja of DMK and Suresh Kalmadi of Congress went behind bars too.
