New Delhi: India and Israel, on Thursday, June 2, discussed key issues pertaining to defence cooperation and global and regional scenarios.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a bilateral meeting with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Gantz in New Delhi.

Both the countries inked a ‘vision statement’ for defence cooperation in the future.

This was adopted at a meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his visiting Israeli counterpart Benny Gantz.

“Both discussed ways to enhance cooperation in all domains with a focus on R&D in future technologies and defence co-production,” an official statement mentioned.

A wide range of issues concerning bilateral, regional and defence industrial cooperation was discussed,

In a series of tweets, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said there is a broad consensus between the two countries on further strengthening the bilateral strategic and defence cooperation.

Both the Ministers acknowledged mutual security challenges and their convergences on a number of strategic and defence issues. They expressed commitment to work together to enhance cooperation in all forums.

A Letter of Intent on enhancing cooperation in the field of Futuristic Defence Technologies was also exchanged between the two Ministers.

The visiting dignitary arrived in New Delhi on an official visit to India. It is his first visit to India with an aim to strengthen the defence ties between the two countries. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the formation of the official diplomatic ties between India and Israel. Defence cooperation has been one of the significant pillars of bilateral cooperation.

The Israeli minister called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Was pleased to meet Deputy PM & Defence Minister of Israel H.E. Benjamin Gantz,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

“As we mark 30 years of full diplomatic relations between India and Israel, our defence cooperation is expanding and diversifying to include joint research, development and production,” Mr Modi wrote.
