Nagaon: The mastermind behind the Batadrava Police Station arson case, Ashikul Islam, is dead. Nagaon police informed that the accused Ashikul, who was arrested on Sunday (May 29), died after being knocked down by a police vehicle in the Raidangia area when he tried to escape from a police vehicle on the way from a search operation.

A police team on Sunday night took Ashikul to his house in search of a red t-shirt which he was wearing while arsoning the Batradava police station on May 21. The police search team found one 7.65 mm pistol and one .22 pistol, along with seven rounds of live ammunition. While returning from the search operation, Ashikul tried to jump from the police vehicle when he was knocked by the following police vehicle.

Three police personnel were also injured in the incident. It should be mentioned that the Muslim mob on May 21 set the Batadrava police station on fire on an alleged custodial death. Ashikul was seen in several viral videos inciting people to arson at the police station. Ashikul was seen beating police personnel in more than one viral video. There were several cases of robbery, dacoity, extortion and drug peddling registered against Ashikul in Batadrava police station. Police say that these criminals torched the police station to destroy the evidence.
