Mathura court, on Thursday (May 19), admitted a plea seeking the removal of the Shahi Idgah Mosque from Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi.

According to PTI, Hari Shankar Jain, the lawyer representing the Hindu side, said the court accepted one of the multiple pleas seeking the removal of the mosque.

The court said, “Mathura Court rules that the suit to remove the Shahi Idgah Mosque on the ground that it was built over the Krishna Janmabhoomi land is maintainable.”

As per the petitions, the Shahi Idgah Mosque was built near Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi on the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1669-70.

The suit filed in the Mathura court has sought the removal of a mosque said to be built in the 13.37-acre premises of the Katra Keshav Dev temple near the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

A petition was also filed to order a survey of the Shahi Idgah Mosque. Mahendra Pratap Singh filed a plea before Civil Judge Senior Division, Mathura, to seal Shahi Idgah and deploy security there “to ensure that ancient Hindu religious symbols aren’t damaged”. Civil Judge Senior Division Mathura will hear the petition on July 1.

The Allahabad High Court directed Mathura Court to dispose of all the cases related to Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Mosque in four months.
