Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses grief over wall collapse tragedy in Gujarat, announces compensation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (May 18) expressed deep grief at the tragedy in Morbi in Gujarat, where people lost lives due to a wall collapse in a private salt manufacturing factory.

“The tragedy in Morbi caused by a wall collapse is heart-rending. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

“May the injured recover soon. Local authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected,” he wrote.

An announcement from the PMO said Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragedy in Morbi and the injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

Meanwhile, reports said Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel left for Morbi along with MoS Brijesh Merja and CM’s Principal Secretary K.Kailashnathan.

Reports said 12 labourers were dead in a private-owned Salt manufacturing company due to a wall collapse at around noon on Wednesday, May 18.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.
