New Delhi: Once known for being close to BJP stalwart from Karnataka, B. S. Yeddyurappa, a former BJP leader and ex-minister B. J. Puttaswamy, on Friday (May 6), embraced ‘sanyas’, giving up worldly affairs.
Sources said, on May 15, he is also likely to take over as the first Pontiff of the Thaileswara Ganigara Mahasamsthana Mutt. He would be given a new name, Poornanandapuri Swami.
Puttaswamy was initiated into sanyas or asceticism by Jayendra Puri, seer of the Kailasa Ashrama Mahasamsthana Mutt. A day before, he had taken Brahm Acharya or the vows of celibacy.
The 83-year-old politician served as a vice-chairperson of the Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission.
Earlier, he had served as a minister in the Jagadish Shettar cabinet.
