Imphal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has elected Caretaker Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh as the Leader of Legislative Party on Sunday (March 20).

I thank each and every Karyakarta of BJP Manipur Pradesh for their tireless efforts in bringing a BJP Govt today. Fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Manipur under PM Narendra Modi Ji’s mantra of Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Viswas aur Sabka Prayas will be our top priority,” Biren tweeted.
The decision to nominate Biren Singh as the Leader of Legislative Party was taken during a closed-door meeting of newly elected MLAs of BJP, State President of BJP and Central Observer Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Finance Minister and Co-observer Kiren Rijiju, Union Law Minister of Law and Justice.
“The newly elected legislative members have unanimously chosen Shri Biren Singh as their Legislative Party leader,” Nirmala Sitharaman announced after the meeting held at BJP state office.
A team of BJP legislatures, including Thongam Bishwajit Singh, and the party-state President, met with the Governor of Manipur, La Ganesh on Sunday afternoon to claim the stake to form a new government.
BJP won 32 seats in the recently held elections for 60 -member Manipur Legislative Assembly.
