MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the Indian government has been taking up this matter with China on numerous occasions since restrictions were imposed (due to Corona in 2020), highlighting students' plight and how the continuation of restrictions jeopardises their academic careers.
New Delhi: China has not given any 'categorical response' to New Delhi about the return of Indian students to that country.
"We will continue to urge China to adopt a congenial stance in the interest of our students and that they facilitate an early return to China," said MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
"…. Let me clarify that till date the Chinese side has not given any categorical response about the return of Indian students," Bagchi added.
He said the Indian government has been taking up this matter with China on numerous occasions since restrictions were imposed (due to Corona in 2020), highlighting students' plight and how the continuation of restrictions jeopardises their academic careers.
To a question, he said, "I don't have any information to share" — on reports on China's foreign minister's possible visit to India by March-end.
MEA spokesperson also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison would hold the 2nd India-Australia virtual summit on March 21.
This Summit follows the historic first virtual summit, which was held on June 4, 2020, when the bilateral relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Meanwhile, at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi, Japanese PM Kishida Fumio will be undertaking an official visit to New Delhi for two days from March 19. The visit is in connection with the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit. The Summit would be the first meeting of the two leaders. The previous India-Japan Annual Summit took place in Tokyo in October 2018.
