In Konkan there are numerous temples, not very famous but indeed very beautiful. One amongst them is Mallikarjun Temple, about 50 km away from Chiplun in a village called Shirambe. The temple is at the foot of a small hill. Nobody actually would travel far from a place to visit this temple. It is too simple. Yet it is amazingly beautiful. The small stream of water flowing down the hill has been skillfully harvested to be the feeder for the pond around the temple. The temple is actually situated in the small pond; the kund. The kund is full of water in all the seasons. The size of this kund is 40×40 feet. The temple is exactly in the center of the kund. One has to use the bridge to reach the temple. The Shiva lingam in the garbhagriha of the temple is always under water. The temple is not very old; it was built in 1973 but the design and the construction style are definitely traditional. The local stone and laterite have been used for construction. The temple has a plinth and a roof. There is no wall. The tiled roof of the temple is two layered sloping roof, which is the typical feature of the structures of Konkan. Deepstambh is also present in the vicinity.
The temple has the potential to encourage local tourism.
