We had prepared the ground to defeat BJP but Samajwadi Party couldn’t use it, Yogendra Yadav tells NDTV

Yogendra Yadav, national president of Swaraj India Party, was one of the core committee members of the farmers’ protest at Delhi border.

In a candid admission on NDTV India, president of Swaraj India Party Yogendra Yadav admitted that through farmers’ protest at Delhi border, they had prepared the ground to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but the main opposition party in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav led Samajwadi Party, could not use it to defeat BJP.

Shri Yadav was one of the core committee leaders of the 18-months long farmers’ protest at the Delhi border.

In the name of opposing the three progressive farm laws passed by the Narendra Modi government, farmers had blocked the entry points to national capital Delhi.

In a televised address to the nation on November 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his government’s decision to repeal the three new farm laws in the winter session of Parliament which was scheduled to commence on November 29.

Prime Minister Modi said that despite his best efforts, he could not convince some farmers about the benefits of the three new farm laws. He also emphasised that he and his cabinet colleagues made multiple attempts to convince the farmers about the benefits of the three new farm laws.

PM Modi had said, “Whatever I had done, it was for the farmers of the country. And, what I’m doing is for the country.”

The Opposition had expected that the ruling BJP will suffer massive losses in the western Uttar Pradesh because of the farmers’ protest. Of the total 113 assembly seats which went to polls in the first two phases, the BJP won 74.

On the Republic Day last year, the protesting farmers decided to take out a tractor rally to the Red Fort in Delhi. There was massive violence in the rally but Yadav and his team members refused to take any responsibility for the violence.

In a press conference on May 10 last year, Shri Yadav had admitted that he knew about the ‘sexual harassment’ of a young girl at Tikri border. This ‘sexual harassment’ was actually gangrape. The victim had died on April 30. In the same press conference, she had elaborated in length how he was in direct contact with the victim as well as the offenders. He did not take any responsibility for this heinous crime.
