A police patrol team detained Saddam Hussein near Indira Nagar at Selvapuram on suspicion. He later confessed that he was closely monitoring Kumaresan’s movements to alert others waiting near Jalakandeshwarar Temple on Puttuvikki Road to murder him.

Following a tip from NIA, Coimbatore city police, on March 8, arrested a five-member gang for planning to murder a man at Selvapuram for opposing a bid to convert his son to Islam after his marriage to a Muslim girl six months ago.

Arunkumar (28), son of Kumaresan, a resident of Indira Nagar at Selvapuram, is a private employee in Hyderabad. He married Sahana Hashmi Raja Mohammed of Tiruvarur in September 2021 and was solemnised at a temple as per Hindu customs with the support of Arunkumar’s family.

“After their marriage, bride’s mother Noor Nisha, an office-bearer of a Muslim outfit in Tiruvarur district, approached Kumaresan’s family and asked Arunkumar to get converted to Islam. Kumaresan opposed the proposal. Enraged, Noor Nisha allegedly approached Fakhruddin to eliminate Kumaresan who in turn conspired with four others to kill him,” the police statement said.

As H Fakhruddin, president of Indian Muslim Development Association (IMDA), H Imran Khan and M Saddam Hussein M Muhammad Ali Jinnah and T Ajai alias Ramveer Ajai (a native of Uttar Pradesh) were waiting to execute their plan late on March 7, Selvapuram police arrested them and seized their weapons. The gang is booked under Sections 153 A (1) (b), 120 B of IPC and Section 7 (1)(a) of Criminal Law Amendment Act and remanded in Avinashi sub-jail.

Police intensified combing operations following an intelligence alert about a gang belonging to a Muslim outfit camping in Coimbatore for the last few days with arms procured from a dealer in a northern state.

Late on Monday, a police patrol team detained Saddam Hussein near Indira Nagar at Selvapuram on suspicion. He later confessed that he was closely monitoring Kumaresan’s movements to alert others waiting near Jalakandeshwarar Temple on Puttuvikki Road to murder him, police said.

On February 23, NIA arrested Ziyavudeen Baqavi of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu, the main recruiter of the Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) terrorist group, for radicalising vulnerable Muslim youths to establish an Islamic state and enforce a constitution written by a radical preacher. The case pertains to the conduct of secret bayaan classes by members of HuT, an offshoot of ISIS, a proscribed terror organisation for radicalising youth to establish an Islamic state or caliphate and enforce the constitution written by radical Islamic preacher Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani, NIA release said.

It is said that both the NIA and Q branch are monitoring the mysterious and suspicious movements of men who are enrolling people and engaged in funds collection for IS.
