N Biren Singh resigns as Manipur Chief Minister

Imphal: N. Biren Singh has called on the Governor of Manipur on Friday (March 11) afternoon and tendered resignation from the post of Chief Minister.

"Called on Hon'ble Governor of Manipur at the Raj Bhavan to tender my resignation from the post of Chief Minister today. I will now be serving as the caretaker Chief Minister," Biren tweeted after submitting resignation to Governor at Raj Bhavan.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by BJP legislators Letpao Haokip and Th Satyabarta Singh at Raj Bhavan.

The Chief Minister has formally resigned after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured majority in the recently concluded 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections. The result of the elections for 60-members Manipur Legislative Assembly elections was announced on Thursday (March 10).

After accepting the resignation of N Biren from the post of Chief Minister, Governor La. Ganesan asked him (Biren) to be the caretaker Chief Minister of Manipur till the permanent arrangement is made.

N Biren Singh assumed the office of Chief Minister on March 15 2017, after BJP formed a coalition government post 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections. He is the first-ever Chief Minister of BJP in the state.
