New Delhi: The Modi government's 'Operation Ganga' goes international as several stranded South Asians from countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Tunisia have been evacuated and rescued so far.

Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, thanked her Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, for rescuing nine Bangladeshi nationals from Ukraine under 'Operation Ganga'.

Sources said Nepalese and Tunisian students were also rescued under this operation. Reports said Pakistani girl, Asma Shafique, was rescued by the Indian authorities and is currently on her way to western Ukraine. "She will be reunited with her family soon," a source said.

In the video made available on social media, the girl is heard expressing her gratitude towards the Indian embassy in Kyiv and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their support.

"I want to thank the Indian embassy of Kyiv for supporting us all the way here as we were stuck in a very difficult situation," the Pakistani girl has said. She also thanked Prime Minister Modi "for supporting" her.

Reports also say that over 600 Indian nationals have left Ukraine's north-eastern city Sumy. According to Indian officials, about 18,000 Indians, besides some citizens from other nations, have been brought back on special flights since the evacuation 'Operation Ganga' was launched last month.

PM Modi has held several rounds of high-level talks with senior ministers and officials regarding the evacuation of Indian nationals. He has also spoken to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russia's Vladimir Putin (more than once) regarding the safe evacuation of stranded Indians.

The war entered day 14 on Wednesday, leaving scores dead and hundreds injured and homeless. The United Nations has already expressed concern over the growing number of migrations taking place across the region.
