BJP has won 74 municipality boards out of 80 and its ally AGP won two municipality boards
Reacting to the massive victory, state BJP said it is a result of the all-round development work continued by the BJP government for the last six years.
Guwahati: A landslide victory for the ruling BJP in Assam civic body election. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured an overwhelming victory in the civic body elections held for 80 municipality boards and town committees.
As per the result declared on Wednesday (March 9), the saffron party has won 74 municipality boards out of 80, for which elections were held on March 6. BJP's alliance partner, AGP, has won two municipality boards. Interestingly, the main opposition party of the state Congress managed to win only one municipality board. Another opposition party, Badruddin Ajmal, led AIUDF, couldn't win a single municipality board or town committee. Independent candidates won two municipality boards. Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were used for the first time in the civic body elections in Assam.
Reacting to the massive victory, state BJP said it is a result of the all-round development work continued by the BJP government for the last six years. Senior spokesperson Ranjib Sharma said, " BJP government has provided good governance to all religions, caste and communities of the state for last 6 years and the party has been accepted by every citizen of Assam. The result also shows that opposition parties like Congress and AIUDF are now far away from the public mind."

Out of 977 wards, BJP and its alliance won 807 wards, and Congress won only 71. Other parties and independent candidates won 99 wards.
