The girl's mother saw marks of the injection needle, nail and tooth marks on her body when she was dropped off by the boy's mother and relatives.

A 17-year old girl who was allegedly enticed to elope on February 14 was drugged and gang-raped. She died on Sunday (March 6) and is suspected to be a love jihad victim from Tamil Nadu.

Geetha (name changed), a resident of Mosque street at Thumbaipatti, was in relation with Nagoor Hanifa, son of Madheena Begum Hanifa. The girl's father, Palaniappan, is mentally challenged, and her mother did not approve of the affair. The girl left home on February 14 (Valentine's Day) but did not return. After searching, her mother Sabri lodged a missing complaint on February 15, saying Madheena and her son Nagoor Hanifa had abducted her daughter. But the police registered the case only on February 21. The parents alleged that no action was taken on their complaint.

Meanwhile, Indu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampat warned he would launch a protest if police fail to arrest the culprits. South India Forward Block party leader K C Thirumaran visited the hospital where the girl was admitted and assured his help to the family.
On March 3, Nagoor Hanifa's mother and relatives brought Geetha in a critical condition and dropped her at her home. She was in a stupor condition because of drugs. Her mother saw marks of the injection needle, nail and tooth marks on her body. The girl was initially taken to Melur Government Hospital, where she was referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital. Without regaining consciousness, she died on Sunday at noon.

The girl's videos and pictures of getting treatment at the hospital and seeking justice went viral on social media. However, after the girl's mother complained about the victim's condition, the Madurai district police registered the case under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for penetrative sexual assault on the child more than once or repeatedly and for aggravated penetrative sexual assault. The police said the girl had gone with a boy, identified as S. Nagoor Haneefa, 29, of the same area.

Police said the girl's mother had given a missing complaint on February 15 with a request not to register any case it would be flashed in media. "Following advice of the senior officers, she agreed and a missing complaint was registered on February 21. During the probe, it is found that she eloped with Nagoor Hanifa of the same village with whom she was in love. To apprehend the accused, three special teams have been formed. One to Tirupur, another to Chennai and one to Madurai. On March 5, we have arrested Nagoor Hanifa. During the questioning, Nagoor Hanifa said he took minor girl to his friend's Perumal Krishnan's house with the help of friends. They later moved to Erode and lived as a husband and wife," the statement said. While both took the rat poison, Nagoor spitted it out, and the girl swallowed it. When her health condition deteriorated, she was treated at a local clinic by hiding the truth. They returned to Thumbaipatti on March 2 at night and was handed over to the girl's mother, Sabri. "She is not gang raped nor have marking on her body or bruises," claimed the report.

Along with Nagoor Hanifa, police have arrested P. Prakash, P.M. Perumal Krishnan, Raja Mohammed, Sahul Hameed, Nagoor Hanifa's mother Madheea Begum, father Sultan Allahuddin, maternal uncle's wife, Ramzab Begum aks Kannammal. Police registered a case under section 143, 366 (A),307 IPC and 5 (L) 6 of POSCO act, 307 IPC.

VHP has demanded a CBI probe and capital punishment for the "love jihad "accused and also demanded it to be probed by NCPCR and NHRC. Like the Lavanya case, police are trying to protect the culprits by ruling out the love jihad angle, gang rape, narcotic drug injection charge.
