Veteran Swayamsevak and Social Activist Dipok Kumar Barthakumar passed away in a private hospital on February 16. RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar paid his tributes to the veteran Swayamsevak in Guwahati on February 18.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar paid his tributes to veteran Swayamsevak and social activist Dipok Kumar Barthakur in Guwahati on Friday (February 18).

Veteran Swayamsevak, prominent social activist and entrepreneur of Assam, Dipok Kumar Barthakur, breathed his last breath on Wednesday (February 16) in a Chennai hospital at the age of 84. He served as the Vice-Chairman of State Innovation and Transformation Authority (SITA) of Assam. His body was flown from Chennai to Guwahati on Thursday (February 17) and was kept at his residence for the public to offer tribute. His last rites were performed on Friday (February 18).

Borthakur contributed immensely to the establishment of the famous New Art Players, Vivekananda Kendra, Sankardev Netralaya, Balaji Temple, Nagarik Samabaya Samiti and Shankardev Shishu Niketan, etc.

While offering floral tribute to the departed soul, Sunil Ambekar said, "Deepak da has been actively involved in various social activities of Assam for the last 5 decades. The youth of Assam was moving in a positive direction for all-around development and strengthening the spirit of national integration by raising the standard of Assam. He was no less a guide to all those belonging to different nationalist and social organisations." Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's (ABVP) Northeast General Secretary Neeraj Gilani also paid tribute to Barthakur along with many luminaries of Assam and Northeast.

Barthakur's association with these organisations and the work these organisations undertook in Assam and Northeast for the betterment of society will be remembered for a long period. His contribution in education, art & theatre, healthcare, skill development, among others, will make late Barthakur immortal in the Northeast, especially in Assam.

Saddened by Barthakur's demise, the eminent thinker S. Gurumurthy wrote, "Sad to know Dipok Da passed away. Great human being and a comfortable colleague to work with. A rare combination. A great loss to Vivekananda Kendra and to Northeast Bharat. Mother India has lost a dear son. I pray to Divine to give you and all family members the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss."

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid his tributes, saying, "Deeply pained by the demise of Dipok Kumar Barthakur, visionary industrialist & Vice-Chairman of State Innovation & Transformation Aayog (SITA), at Chennai today. Assam has lost a worthy son in him. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Om Shanti!"

Barthakur was instrumental in setting up BJP's roots in Assam.
