Mumbai: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Wednesday (February 16) conferred the "Assam Baibhav", the State's highest civilian award to eminent industrialist, philanthropist and Tata Trust's Chairman Ratan Naval Tata at a function held in Taj Wellington Mews, in Koloba, Mumbai.

As an industrialist and philanthropist, Ratan Tata has made exceptional contributions towards furthering cancer care in Assam. In collaboration with the Assam government, Tata Trust has set up 20 state of art cancer care hospitals across the State.

The "Assam Baibhav" Award carries a citation, a medal and a cash amount of Rs 5 lakh. Owing to personal reasons, Ratan Tata couldn't attend the official award ceremony held in Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati on January 24 2022, where Governor Jagdish Mukhi conferred the State's three highest civilian awards to 18 other distinguished personalities in different fields.
