The train was loaded with food products, ready-made garments, varieties of tea, bamboo products and other handicrafts, spices, edible oil, mosquito repellents, etc.

Guwahati: As part of the Business Development Unit (BDU) initiatives, North Frontier Railway operated its first leased Parcel Cargo Express Train (PCET) from Azara near Guwahati in Assam to Vasco – da- Gama in Goa on Saturday (29/01/22). The train commenced its maiden journey from Azara carrying mosquito repellents (All Out), varieties of tea, broom etc on Saturday.

In a first, AVG Logistics operated a leased Parcel Cargo Express Train (PCET) for Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) covering a distance of 3358 km (one way) between Azara (Guwahati) in Assam and Vasco in Goa via Siliguri, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Hubli with loading/unloading facilities.

The train was loaded with food products, ready-made garments, varieties of tea, bamboo products and other handicrafts, spices, edible oil, mosquito repellents, etc. The total transit time was 87 hours. The train will operate on a round trip basis. The train departs from Azara every Wednesday at 6 pm and reaches Vasco-da-Gama at 8:30 am on Sunday. The train consists of 15 van parcels of 24-tonne capacity each and 1 brake van for the first six months and a total of 20 parcel vans thereafter up to the next 6 years.

This new route will not only strengthen the connectivity between the North Eastern States with the South and West, but also act as a catalyst for business growth. It will act as an efficient and reliable time-bound solution to the supply chain needs of Eastern India. It will bring a boom to the industrial and agricultural sector across the eastern region.
