The incident happened in Delhi’s Sultanpuri. Accused Irfan Siddiqui and his brother Sanu live in the same street and Hiralal’s mother treated Irfan and Sanu as her children.

New Delhi: Hiralal Gujarati, 38, who lived in Delhi’s Sultanpuri, paid with his life for trying to ensure justice for his minor sister. He was murdered by rape accused Irfan Siddiqui on Monday (January 17).

Irfan was in jail in the rape case for about four months and had come out recently.

In the evening of January 17, Hiralal, together with his friend Narsingh, had gone to a park in the same locality. Irfan and Sanu Siddiqui were already present there.

Irfan was angry that he had to spent four months in jail as Hiralal had registered an FIR against him, accusing him of raping his minor sister. Sanu wanted to ‘settle’ it there itself.

They had pistol and knives in their hands. They attacked Hiralal and fired on him. They also tried to crush his face with a brick.

Narsingh jumped to save his friend but before he could do much, Irfan and Sanu had fired on Hiralal. Narsingh also sustained injuries. They were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi hospital but Hiralal could not be saved.

Irfan is also politically influential in the region as he is the minority wing president of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the area. The family of Hiralal accused that Irfan and his family also have political protection as they are close to AAP MLA Mukesh Ahlawat who is the MLA of the region.

“Irfan and his younger brother Sanu kill him (Hiralal). Both of them killed him there with knives and bullets. His terror is so much in our area that no one tried to stop him. He keeps abusing and threatening everyone. He had threatened that if he comes out of jail, he will have an open fight. When he used to come on the court date, he used to threaten and say let me be free from here, then see what I do to every one of you”, deceased Hiralal’s wife told OpIndia.

She had added “Irfan was jailed in the rape case of my sister-in-law. Earlier he used to visit my house. My mother-in-law treated him like a son. At that time, we did not even think that he would do this to us. He used to call my sister-in-law. She could not understand. Later my sister-in-law told his mother, she refused to do anything.”

Because of the persistent threat from Irfan and his family, Hiralal and his family was thinking about moving to Rajasthan for their safety.

The deceased Hiralal’s wife said that they could not think that Irfan would go to the extent of killing her husband. Now, she has to take care of her three children and fight for justice for her deceased husband.
