According to sources, the party has so far fielded five women, 54 general caste candidates, and three are from the Baniya community and 14 Brahmins. The BJP has fielded Ramsharan Nautiyal, father of Bollywood singer Jubin Nautiyal from the Chakrata assembly seat.

Uttarakhand will go to the polls on February 14, and the results of the elections, along with four other states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Manipur and Goa, will be out on March 10.

Notably, Late Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat’s younger brother, Colonel (retired) Vijay Rawat, joined the BJP on Wednesday.

In another development, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has written to BJP national president J P Nadda expressing his unwillingness to contest the assembly polls this year. Rawat represented the Doiwala assembly segment and was chief minister between March 18, 2017, and March 10, 2021
