Raipur: A total of five Maoist including two women cadres were killed in two separate encounters in Sukma and Chhattisgarh-Telangana border on Tuesday morning.
Confirming about the incident, Sukma SP Sunil Sharma said that the District Reserve Guards (DRG) of Dantewada, Sukma and Bastar have gunned down the women cadre in a skirmish broke near Marjum under Katekalyan police station in Sukma district.
The Slain women cadre has been identified as Munni, a member of the Katekalyan area committee, who had a reward of Rs 8 lacs on her head.
In another incident, following the information about the presence of around 50-60 armed Maoists including the divisional committee member of Venkatapuram, Sudhakar, a joint team of CRPF, Greyhounds(Telangana), and DRG had launched a combing operation near Peruru, Ilmidi and Usur forest areas bordering Telangana and Chhattisgarh.
At around 7 in the morning, the ultras opened fire upon security forces, to which the forces retaliated. After the intense gunfight, the Maoists fled the spot leaving the bodies of their slain cadres. Four bodies including a woman Maoist have been recovered and they are yet to be identified, confirmed SP Mulugu District.
Confirming about the encounters, in a statement issued to the media, IG Bastar range Sundarraj said, "A security personnel belonging to Telangana Greyhounds was injured in the encounter and he was airlifted to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial government hospital at Warangal for treatment. Presently a search is being carried out by the police in the vicinity of the incident site."
